The USF School of Continuing Education, in cooperation with the
School of Mass Communications, invite all university faculty, staff, and
students to participate in a Community Dialogue on Democracy, Tolerance
and Freedom of Speech, to be held on the USF campus Friday, October 14. 

        USF President Betty Castor will open the all day conference.
Nationally syndicated columnist Nat Hentoff will be the luncheon speaker; 
he is the author of "Free Speech for Me But Not for Thee:  How the
American Right and Left Relentlessly Censor Each Other." 

        Talbot (Sandy) D'Alemberte, President of Florida State University,
and past president of the American Bar Association, is the invited leader
for a Socratic dialogue that will bring together community, institutional
and organizational leaders representing all sides of censorship issues to
grapple with a hypothetical censorship problem that mimics several of
today's real issues.  Breakout seminars will allow participants to work in
small groups to confront and discuss specific censorship problems tailored
to their areas of interest or responsibility. 

        The conference registration fee, which includes lunch and all
conference materials, is $25 for non-students and $10 for students.  Call
