       Christian Coalition And Jewish Leaders Denounce Jackson Slur


Christian Coalition, one of the nation's leading pro-family
citizen organizations, today called remarks made by the Reverend
Jesse Jackson "absurd" and "rank hypocrisy."  Jackson, in an
editorial board meeting at the Chicago Sun Times, compared the
Christian Coalition to Adolph Hitler's Nazi party and claimed
the Coalition was a strong force during wartime Germany.  The
Christian Coalition, founded in 1989, did not exist during
Hitler's regime.

"It's sad and pathetic that Jesse Jackson, who has dedicated his
life to combating bigotry, has now committed a brazen act of
bigotry himself," said Mike Russell, communications director for
the Christian Coalition.  "Jackson's remarks, given his past
record of insensitivity toward Jewish people, are laughable.
When it comes combating racism and anti-Semitism in America,
Christian Coalition takes a back seat to no one," said Russell.

Jackson, who once referred to New York City as "Hymietown,"
was repeatedly jeered, heckled and forced to cut short his
remarks  during an appearance at the Park Avenue Synagogue in New
York City on December 5.  Jackson's recent attack against
religious conservatives has drawn criticism from Jewish leaders,
who call the remarks mean-spirited and without credibility.

"Jesse Jackson's accusation against Christian Coalition reveals
far more about Jackson than anyone else," said Rabbi Daniel
Lapin, founder of Toward Tradition.  "The author of `Hymietown'
and friend of Assad is himself employing bigotry against the most
steadfast friends of Jews and Israel.  With this latest
provocation that lacks both credibility and veracity, Jackson
finally forfeits all claim to seriousness," said Lapin.

Christian Coalition distributed 33 million nonpartisan voter
guides prior to the November election in synagogues and African-
American churches, as well as Latino, Asian, and Catholic
churches.  In Texas, Christian Coalition voter guides were
printed both in English and Spanish.  In California, Star Parker,
a former welfare mother and prominent urban activist, helped
distribute Christian Coalition voter guides in African-American
churches.

"It is the height of hypocrisy for someone who openly campaigns
in churches and endorses candidates from pulpits--in clear
violation of federal law--to attack his brothers and sisters in
Christ who are merely exercising their rights as citizens," said
Russell.
