Actually, Eating is Everything
One of the best gourmet restaurants near Geneva, Switzer-
land, is the St. Christophe in the small town of Bex. A meal
there, typically, costs about $76.00. Ordinarily the members of
the Solar Temple sect ate there about four times a week. Usually
they ordered well-done escalopes (escallops) of veal or lamb,
with olives. They were gourmets who would take champagne as an
aperitif and Bordeaux wine with their meals. They also favored
langoustines (small lobsters). They paid in cash and were
generous with tips.
About thirteen of them came in, as usual, on October 4. The
following morning forty-eight charred corpses were found in the
remains of three chalets in Granges sur Salvan -- all having been
murdered.
As the mystery thickens, all we can say is that at least the
condemned ate hearty meals.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)
announced on October 7 that the sect's leaders, Belgian doctor
Luc Jouret and the seventy-year-old French Canadian businessman,
Joseph Di Mambro, were involved with an arms network on the
intentional black market. Millions of dollars of profit were
laundered through the Royal Bank of Canada Ltd. and Bank of
Credit and Commerce branch offices, all in Ottawa. Money was also
laundered in the purchase of real estate. Five more of the sect
were murdered in Quebec, Canada.
