                   KUWAIT RELIGIOUS LEADERS SEEK CHANGES

Things are sure getting interesting in Kuwaiti now that we've
liberated it. Last month, religious leaders there were seeking to ban
Barbie dolls because of their "Western" curves. This month, it's Popeye
who should be banned because he "propagates the concept of abnormal
friendships between men and women since two men (Popeye and Brutus)
fight during the whole episode for the love of a woman.
    Now they are after limbs.
Only thieves' limbs, of course. In _al-Mujtama_, an Islamist weekly
magazine, an editorial commented that: "How nice would it be if the law
of God was implemented upon them so their arm and leg on the opposite
side were cut off to make them (the thieves) a living example."

Subj : Outlawing Popeye and Barbie

The debate over whether Popeye and Barbie should be outlawed is
still going on among Kuwaiti Muslims. It seems that American
troops are good enough to liberate their country -- but our toys
and cartoons are another thing entirely.

It seems that Barbie corrupts the young, with her
feminine curves, filling the heads of young Muslim girls with
inappropriate ideas of independence and modest dress. Popeye, of
course, sets a bad example by brawling over a woman with another
man. Or at least that is what conservative Muslim "scholars" in
Kuwait say. And so they both should be banned -- along with pop
music concerts -- according to religious leaders.
