                   FUNDAMENTALIST SUES FOR RELIGIOUS HARASSMENT

    There is more than a little irony in this story. The Traditional
Values Coalition and other religious right groups have just blocked
proposed EEOC guidelines on religious harassment. But a Maine
fundamentalist is suing a company on the grounds of religious
harassment.

    What's the story? It seems that workers at Bango Hydro Electric
Company like to make racy jokes at work -- but Bryan Finnemore objected
and asked them to stop because as a fundamentalist he objected to "lewd
banter." So his coworkers made him the butt of their jokes, teasing him
about what he and his wife might do for, ahem, recreation. He claims
that the Electric Company refused to stop the teasing -- and that this
constitutes religious discrimination.

    The case is not before a Maine trial court which will determine
whether Finnemore would have been the butt of sexual jokes if he had not
been a fundamentalist. No trial date has been set.

                          What's This?

     The _Detroit News_ reports this.
     The Carnegie-Mellon University, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, fired
a student as a resident assistant when he refused, on religious
grounds, to wear a pink ribbon touting gay and lesbian rights.
     It then tried to deny him a diploma for complaining about an
anti-Catholic poster that warned, "Know your scumbags" and "Stop the
Church." It declined to censure gay rights activists carrying signs
saying "Know Your Looney."
