(The Herald-Sun, Friday 29th October)
Nine Tanzanian pupils and a priest who tried to walk on water like
[alledged] Jesus Christ drowned in Lake Victoria , police said. The
members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church were travelling in canoes
to a religious festival when they decided to make the walk as a test
of faith.
"They decided to test their faith by walking on the water like
Jesus, but they all drowned" police spokesman Alfred Gewe said.
But Ray Coombe of the South Pacific Division of the Seventh Day
Adventist Church said the story was bizzare.
He said normal Seventh Day Adventists did not test there faith
by walking on water.
He said sources had indicated high winds turned the boat over
resulting in the drownings and his church in Australia did not
approve of such fanatical tests of faith.
