For over a thousand years popes have told the West what to do.

It's time that Atheists tell a pope what to do.

We would suggest, "John Paul, go home!"

The place: Denver, Colorado

The date: August 13, 14, and 15, 1993 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)

The occasion: World Youth Day 1993. The pope has been invited by the Denver
archdiocese for a massive conference [and what better state of repression for
such a nice Catholic event?], ending in a papal mass on Sunday, August 15,
1993. The conference is expected to draw over 60,000 young people. At least
200,000 persons will be at the mass. Now, isn't the pope the very last person
we want influencing the young? [nah, Pat Robertson is more dangerous than the
pope.]

American Atheist plans: There will be a number of opportunities to
demonstrate against the pope and Roman Catholic policies during the weekend.
Our plans will finalize as we work with local authorities. The weekend will
include an informal cocktail party and lectures on the Roman Catholic church.

Accomodations: Most hotels are already booked because of the massive crowds
expected for the pope's visit. American Atheists has been able to reserve a
block of rooms at the American Motel, 10101 I-70 Service Road North, Wheat
Ridge, CO. The room rate is $36 per night plus 9.5 percent tax. Details on
how to reserve your room will be sent after you register for the picket.

Transportation: American Atheists will organize transportation from the
official Pope Picket hotel to any demonstration sites. Golden West Airport
Shuttle service provides transportation from Stapleton Airport to the
American Motel. Cost is between $5 and $8.

Registration: There is a $5 fee per person to participate in the Pope Picket
'93. This non-refundable registration fee is charged to help cover costs of
organizing the event.
