 Pop rock singer specializing in pop-rock idiom with black gospel
 shouting intensity. She had hits in the 80s with "Gloria" and "Self

 Laura Branigan is a singer and, increasingly, an actress from
 Brewster, NY, who first gained notice when she became a backup singer
 for Leonard Cohen in 1977. Branigan achieved considerable popular
 success in the early 80s by applying her big, powerful voice to
 translated versions of Eurodisco hits. She was less successful with
 subsequent recordings in the second half of the 80s, though by then
 she had begun to appear on television and in films. ~ William

 "Solitaire" is the inevitable "Gloria" followup, but the album also
 shows unusual range, including a version of the Who's "Squeeze Box"
 and the dramatic ballad "How Am I Supposed to Live without You," which
 was a minor hit for Branigan and a much bigger hit a few years later
