All-Music Guide Biography
Bruford was one of art-rock's most influential drummers, due to his
distinctively tight snare-drum sound and detailed percussion work in
the group Yes. In August 1972 Bruford left Yes for King Crimson,
where he increasingly became fascinated with the application of
Simmons electronic drums. ~ Rick Clark
British drummer influenced by Art Blakey and Max Roach; he developed
that style into a powerful personal expression. A great experimenter
with extensions of rock and jazz, using electronics as an
enhancement, not as a slave-device. He also uses African polyrhythms
frequently. Played with the bands Yes and King Crimson; now leads his
own ensemble, Earthworks. ~ Michael G. Nastos
