but I plan to update the entry with some of your comments. Here is the list

another fan. Once those are added, the list will be posted on Wire. If you
can povide any further entries, please e-mail me.
ps. sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was having trouble
sending out mail of this length. If you do contact me, don't reply to

OUT OF CONTROL
(a guide to U2 bootleg CD's)
Version: Feb '92
About the listings (in order of appearance):
CD TITLES: In most cases, this is obvious. In those instances where it is
not, I have chosen what I felt is the most obvious possibility.
Titles appear in all caps, and in alphabetical order.
MANUFACTURER: Some bootleg labels have been around for years; others exist
for a single CD. Sometimes more than one manufacturer uses the same
label name. Some specialize in quality and original material; others
in reprints. The entry "(no manufacturer listed)", is used when no
label is identified.
CATALOG #'S: Many bootlegs have been reprinted, sometimes in altered form.
This catalog number should make it clear which pressing I'm
referring to.
TIMING: Total running time for each disc appears in parenthesis, eg.(64:15)
TRACK LISTINGS: Song titles are listed in the order in which they are heard
on the CD. If there is a discrepancy between what is heard and what
is listed on the cover, it is noted under the comments section.
SOURCE: Location and date of the recording. All recordings are of a live
performance unless otherwise stated.
SOUND QUALITY: This is in terms of bootleg quality, not commercial quality.
The rating scale is as follows; excellent, very good, good, fair,
and poor. A CD rated poor to fair, is difficult or unpleasant to
listen to.
Lastly, any questions, corrections, or additions are welcome. I NEED
INFORMATION ON CD'S THAT ARE NOT LISTED HERE! If you have a disc that is
not listed, then please e-mail me with the info, so that it may be added to
future versions of the guide.
Thanks!
Nems

This is a mastered from a vinyl bootleg, of the same name.

Source: The Apollo Theatre in Manchester, England. December 2nd 1982.

Comments: The cover lists tracks 14 & 15 in opposite order to how they

released until two months later (Feb. 1983). This performance is also
available (minus the hiss) on NO SURRENDER.

Comments: BB King appears on tracks 5-7 (disc 2). Some members of the crowd

live together in here, then you can not live together out there, let me
tell ya". "Slow Dancing" is introduced with, "we've never played this
song before, so...".

10. "40"
Source: Point Theatre, Dublin, Ireland. January 1st, 1991.
Sound Quality: Excellent to very good broadcast recording.
Comments: BB King appears on tracks 7-9 on disc 2.
STAR SPANGLED BANNER / BULLET THE BLUE SKY is missing (should be after
track 1, disc 2) and the tape glitches from it are quite audible.
The first disc is labled as including VAN DIEMEN'S LAND, but it is on the
second disc. Disc one is indexed for 11 tracks but track 10 is ten
seconds of the crowd and track 11 contains ALL I WANT IS YOU / BAD. At
the very end of BAD the music "skips" very much the way a skip sounds on
vinyl.

Sound Quality: Good audience recording.
Comments: Interesting for its live version of "Wire", and also to hear U2
cover Springsteen's "My Hometown" for their own hometown crowd. U2 seem
a little worn, or perhaps worried, during much of their performance.

13. The Ocean
Source: The Paradise Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. March 6 1981.
Sound Quality: This performance was originally recorded for WBCN-FM radio
in Boston. It was then pressed as the Warner Brothers Music Show promo
LP,"TWO SIDES LIVE". It was from a copy of the promo LP, that this CD was
mastered. As such, vinyl pops and ticks can be heard. There is also a
skip that repeats about four times during "Things To Make And Do".
Despite the vinyl source, this is still an excellent soundboard
recording.
Comments: Brilliant early performance that captures most of the first album
live. "Another Time, Another Place" is played, despite not being listed
on the cover. Unfortunately, this cd is not indexed, making it impossible
to quickly jump from track to track.

Source: 1983 USA War Tour (cover says 84'). These songs are probably from
various dates on the tour.
Sound Quality: Excellent soundboard recording. Unfortunately this cd was
mastered from vinyl (probably a two record set). As such, pops and ticks
can be heard.
Comments: Standard U2 live. Interesting only for the songs U2 doesn't play
live that often; "Two Hearts", "Rejoice", and "I Fall Down".
