Subject: Lucy and ICR

March 1st and 2nd, KPBS in San Diego will be airing a 3 hour Nova 
titled "In Search of Human Origins". According to their March _On 
Air_ magazine, it is about evolution and will recreate Lucy and 
her world. It is hosted by Donald Johnson who found her fossil. 
In the article titled "He Loves Lucy", he describes the find and 
the Afar tribe that helped him. The article says:

Ironically, these tribespeople are helping Johnson and his team 
find data that undermine their creation myths. But it doesn't 
seem to bother them, because they don't try to mix science and 
religion. And what does Johnson think about groups, such as 
Santee's Institute for Creation Research, that attempt to 
scientifically prove their particular creation myth?

"If you grew up as a Muslim, that's the way you look at creation. 
If you were brought up in the Judeo-Christian world, you look at 
it that way. If you are a Navajo, you look at it yet another way. 
And the Institute for Creation Research believes that the Bible 
reveals the way it happened. They have to arrange all of their, 
quote, 'scientific observations' to fit the Bible, whereas in 
evolutionary biology, we often have to change our minds because 
new evidence comes up. They are just two very different ways of 
looking at the world. Strongly religious people have their own 
personal beliefs, and we should not require them to subject those 
beliefs to scientific rigor. But neither should religious beliefs 
be disguised as science. I'm glad our government chose to keep 
creationism as an alternative view out of the public schools."
