Subj: Scopes trial

The mention of the Scopes trial had me look in the transcript
again.  Every time I open this, I find new bits of interesting
dialogue.

Gen. Stewart: My objection is to making a Sunday school out of
this at the expense of Rhea county, of the courthouse.

Mr. Hays:  It may lead to intelligent thought and that can do
no harm.

Gen. Stewart:  The fact that it may lead to unintelligent
thought may do harm.


Stewart was the prosecutor; Hays one of the defense attorneys.
