Freedom Writer - July/August

Oh, those letters!
_The_Freedom_Writer_ office receives hundreds of direct mail solicitations
each month. Some are bizarre; some are amusing. Here are a few excerpts
from recent letters.
Phil Gramm for President. "Because you are a recognized leader in
your community, I wanted to tell you firsthand that I am running for
President of the United States. And since I'm organizing a core group
of my most prominent supporters, I wanted to ask you personally to
be one of the first to join my campaign as a member of my '96 Steering
Committee."
Pat Robertson for the Christian Coalition. "And the Left could easily
recapture control of Congress in 1996 by winning only a few seats...which
would put us right back where we started -- with radicals back in
control of our government."
Pat Robertson for the Christian Broadcasting Network. "As you read
today's headlines, have you ever wondered if we're witnessing the
'signs of the times' spoken of in the Bible -- signaling the last
days? Our world is being shaken like never before. Nation rising up
against nation, false religions, violent crime, famine, and natural
disasters. These are the signs of the times Jesus instructed His disciples
to watch for as the final day nears."
Pat Robertson for the American Center for Law & Justice. "Today, we
see a deliberate, all-out effort to eradicate religious belief from
every vestige of public life. This assault is furious and unrelenting
-- so dangerous and intense that it can be considered nothing less
than a deliberate attempt at 'religious cleansing' in the American
Republic!"
Dr. James Dobson. "Warning: This letter should not be read by children
or by those who do not wish to know the truth about 'a woman's right
to choose'."
Beverly LaHaye. "Pat Robertson once gave a powerful illustration about
a raindrop. One raindrop by itself seems insignificant, but combined
with others it forged the Grand Canyon and formed the vast oceans
of the world. LifeLine, at literally no cost to you, provides the
vehicle for everyone with Concerned Women For America to join hands
and together become a mighty force for moral and spiritual justice
in America. For too long our long distance dollars have gone to support
immoral causes such as abortion, Christian anti-bias, and militant
homosexuality, but we had no choice. AT&T, MCI, and SPRINT have for
years helped support at least one of these issues if not all. LifeLine
is a 'God Send' to the Christian community. We now have a choice."
Joseph Foreman for Missionaries to the Preborn. "Can you see how such
a simple thing as signing up with AmeriVision's long distance telephone
service -- LifeLine -- for your long distance phone calling will both
save you money, as well as multiply our opportunity to organize and
support the people all over the country whose daily sacrifice is literally
forcing the abortion industry to its knees?"
Rev. Jerry Falwell. "I cannot believe what I have read. The Vice President
Al Gore, and his wife Tipper, recently entertained 150 radical homosexual
leaders in their home. I wonder how much of our tax funds were used
to wine and dine these perverted homosexuals who absolutely hate everything
that you and I and most decent, God-fearing citizens stand for."
