BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD TOLD TO BUTT-OUT

   With various religious and social groups out to ban everything from
pornography to the teaching of evolution, it's good to know that NOTHING
is exempt from the insatiable drive to censor.

   huh-huh-huh

   huh-huh-huh

   Now, Beavis and Butt-head -- those raunchy and admittedly disgusting
cartoon characters on MTV -- are under attack in Greenville and nearby by
Hempfield Townships in Pennsylvania. About 120 people signed petitions
charging that Beavis and Butt-head are "decaying the quality of life
which we hold so dear."  The Township council president declared that
"their language is in poor taste, and their remarks are not funny."  One
person claimed that "some people might think it is funny, but some people
blow up federal buildings, too."

   Beavis and Butt-head haven't blown up any federal buildings, but they
HAVE deep  fried a rat, driven a heart patient's golf car through a
hospital, and contaminated hamburgers.

   Ironically, the incident with the rat is similar to a story which
"shock jock" broadcaster and former Watergate burglar G. Gordon Liddy
tells in his somewhat macho autobiography, "Will." Liddy, a darling of
the far-right talk radio crowd, claims that he conquered his own fear of
rodents by catching, cooking, and then eating a rat.

   Executives at Cablevision Industries based in Pittsburgh which
supplies MTV said that it was impossible to block out only one program on
the cable. Township council members who granted the company a franchise
said they  would consider voting on banning MTV altogether.

   Beavis and Butt-head are also the targets of a third petition drive in
communities with some 11,000 citizens.  One petition organizer said that
Beavis and Butt-head's behavior was like "daggers and knives" directed
against local morals.

   Aside from their obnoxious behavior, Beavis and Butt-head are known
for their annoying "huh-huh-huh chuckle."

   The cartoon is drawn by Mike Judge; MTV recently broadcast several
Beavis and Butt-head episodes during a one-day "Moron-a-Thon."  Fans of
the program include David Letterman.

  It is suspected that Beavis and Butt-head are in danger of being
upstaged by programs airing on C-Span.
