My brother is a fundamentalist Christian. I am an atheist. My
brother and his wife have taught their children since they
could CRAWL, that I was evil and despicable and not very
nice. I didn't really care. Sometimes I even thought it was
funny to see fear in their eyes at their "evil" Aunt Kate.
Well, it isn't funny anymore.

His oldest daughter (aged 19), is having severe doubts about
Christianity and all of the bullshit it entails. Through this
has come to her the realization that I am not the evil myth
that they have been taught.

When she first came to me with all of this, I told her that I
had to tread carefully and not get caught up in the middle of
this, because sooner or later, they would find a way to blame
ME for whatever happened between my niece and her family.
This has happened. On chrismas day, my brother and his family
refused to go to my grandfather's house for the traditional
Chrismas breakfast until my children and I left. I must add
that my Grandpa is 90 and in poor health, and this would have
most likely been his very last chrismas.

There is a lot more to this story that I won't go into, but I
wanted to point out that when people here say that fundies
are harmless--- they aren't. But they have an amazing capacity
for seeing themselves as blameless in whatever happens and
putting blame on someone who had nothing whatsoever to do
with whatever is going on in their lives. I am a victim of
such treatment. Now I am in fear of them. I just don't deal
too well with crazy people.
