Wave the White Flag (Hearthstone Books,Carlton Press: New York, 1995) is a curious hate-filled book admonishing people to embrace God and disassociate themselves from gay/lesbians. Admittedly homophobic propaganda from fundamentalist "Christians" is not a new invention. What make this book such a curious offering is it crude style and presentation. The elegant cover depicting a delicate angelic image belies the pages inside. From the first page the reader is assaulted with an intense barrage of hostility expressed in partial sentences and unreferenced Christian dogma. Each of the pages is lined with incomplete thoughts regarding God's battle with "Mr. Evil", and warnings to straights not to live in big cities or befriend gays/lesbians because "...that is a No-No!" The author, Ida Stark, who identifies herself as a native Canadian, declares that she was called by God to write this book. At the very least I'd argue that God has a better grasp of the English language and not so subtle complexities of basic grammar to have dictated such material. Anyone interested in responding to this insult to our collective humanity can write to: Scott C. Gram, V.P., Carlton Press, 11 West 22 Street, New York, N.Y. 10001 (This warning found in the Aids Committee of Windsor Newsletter, Vol.2,No.3 1995) ...
