THIS TEXT IS PRESENTED HERE TO PROVIDE SOME INFORMATION ON MYSTERY LIGHTS AND OTHER ASSOCIATED PHENOMENA. I WILL PRESENT TO YOU THE EXPERIMENT AND OBSERVATIONS CARRIED OUT TO STUDY THE PHENOMENA OF MYSTERY LIGHTS. THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL ARE THE ACTUAL OBSERVATIONS AND DATA FROM THE EXPERIMENT, PUT INTO MY OWN WORDS AND PRESENTED HERE FOR YOUR REFERENCE. I WILL BEGIN BY EXPLAINING THE EXPERIMENT WHICH WAS CARRIED OUT ON THE NIGHT OF NOVEMBER 20-21, 1976. THE EXPERIMENT WAS CARRIED OUT BY AN ORGANIZATION KNOWN AS VESTIGIA. THE PURPOSE OF THIS ORGANIZATION IS TO STUDY UNUSUAL PHENOMENA IN A SCIENTIFIC MANNER. THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL WAS GATHERED FROM THE MYSTERY LIGHT IN MORRIS COUNTY, NEW JERSEY. THE EXPERIMENT CONSISTED OF A WELL PLANNED PROCEDURE, AND THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT GO GATHER ALL AVAILABLE INFORMATION ON THE MYSTERY LIGHT. THREE POSTS WERE SET UP ALONG A 1-MILE LENGTH OF RAILROAD TRACK, WHERE THE PHENOMENA WAS REPORTED TO OCCUR. THESE POSTS MAINTAINED CONTACT WITH THE TEAM LEADERS USING PORTABLE RADIOS. THE CENTRAL COMMAND POST WAS POST NUMBER TWO, WHICH CONSISTED OF TWO VANS PARKEN IN A 'T' CONFIGURATION. THE VANS CONTAINED VARIETY OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT WHICH WERE CONNECTED TO SENSING DEVICES ALONG THE TRACKS. 4,000 FEET OF FINE WIRE WAS LAID IN BETWEEN THE RAILS TO DETECT ANY ELECTRICAL FREQUENCY THAT MAY BE PRESENT. THE WIRE WAS ATTACHED TO AN AMPLIFIER AND OSCILLOSCOPE. OTHER WIRES, ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO THE RAILS, WOULD MEASURE THE CAPACITANCE THAT EXISTED BETWEEN THEM. THE OTHER SENSING EQUIPMENT IS A GEIGER COUNTER, A COMPASS, THERMOMETERS, IR SENSORS, METHANE GAS DETECTORS, RADAR UNIT, A BAROMETER AND A PARABOLIC MICR OPHONE. ALL OBSERVATION POSTS HAD BINOCULARS AND CAMERAS, AND POST NUMBER TWO HAD A CAMERA WITH INFRARED FILM, MOUNTED ON A TRIPOD. THE IR FILM WAS SENSITIVE TO RADIATION UP TO 900 NANOMETERS. AT 10:21 PM, OBSERVATION POST #1 REPORTED THAT THEY HAD THE LIGHT UNDER OBSERVATION. THE LIGHT WAS ABOUT 300-400 FEET FROM POST NUMBER ONE. OBSERVERS AT POST NUMBER TWO SCANNED THE GENERAL AREA WITH RADAR AND VISUALLU, USING BINOCULARS, BUT COULD DETECT NOTHING. AT POST ONE, THE LIGHT REMAINED VISIBLE FOR ONE MINUTE AND 35 SECONDS. THE LIGHT FIRST APPEARED OFF TO ONE SIDE OF THE TRACKS, BUT MOVED OVER AND POSITIONED ITSELF DIRECTLY ABOVE THE TRACKS, AND BEGAN TO SWAY FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE. THE OBSERVERS AT POST 1 FIGURED ITS SIZE TO BE 3-6 INCHES IN DIAMETER. WHEN THE OBJECT DISSAPEARED, IT DID SO SUDDENLY, INSTEAD OF FADING AWAY SLOWLY. OBSERVERS TOOK PICTURES AT THE DARKNESS IN THE DIRECTION OF THE LIGHT, AND GOT SOME GOOD IR PHOTOS. MEANWHILE, AT POST NUMBER 3 A COUPLE OF OBSERVERS REPORTED A LIGHT BETWEEN THEIR POST AND POST NUMBER TWO. THE ELECTRONIC QUIMENT IN THE VANS GAVE STRANGE READINGS DURING THE TIME THAT THE LIGHT WAS BEING WATCHED. THE OSCILLOSCOPE GAVE A READING OF AROUND 40000 HERTZ, AND THE CAPACITANCE TEST SHOWED SOMETHING SHORTING THE TWO RAILS, AS IF A WIRE HAD BEEN LAID ACROSS THEM. 9 MINUTES AFTER THE LIGHT DISSAPEARED THE GEIGER COUNTER GAVE A FULL SCALE READING, FOR 10 SECONDS, AND THEN REGISTERED NORMAL BACKGROUND RADIATION, FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER FULL SCALE READING FOR 7 SECONDS. THE CONDITIONS AROUND THE EXPERIMENT WERE AS FOLLOWS. NEAR THE SITE, A SIESMIC FAULT IS PRESENT, AND THE RAILROAD TRACKS RUN PARALLEL TO THIS FAULT. THE GRANITE IN THE AREA WAS 30% QUARTZ, WHICH IS A PIEZOELECTRICAL MINERAL. THE STRESSING CAUSED BY THE FAULT MAY HAVE CAUSED PIEZOELECTRIC ENERGY TO BE GENERATED, AND COLLECT AROUND THE CONDUCTIVE RAILS OF THE RAILROAD TRACKS. A BAROMETRIC PRESSURE DROP FROM 29.9 TO 29.76 WAS RECORDED LESS THAN AN HOUR BEFORE THE LIGHTS APPEARENCE, AND A LIGHT SNOWFALL FOLLED THE LIGHTS APPEARENCE, SUGGESTING THAT THE LIGHTS EFFECT WAS ENHANCED BY THESE CONDITIONS. THE LIGHT WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE STRESSING OF THE QUARTZ, CAUSING IT TO GENERATE PIEZOELECTRICITY, WHICH ACCUMULATED AROUND THE METAL RAILS. I CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY THIS PIEZOELECTRICITY CAUSED THE LIGHT, AND THE REFERENCE THAT I GOT THE ABOVE MATERIAL DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE CAUSE OF THE LIGHT ITSELF, ONLY WHERE THE ENERGY TO CREATE THE LIGHT MAY HAVE COME FROM, AND THE LIGHTS EFFECTS. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT BOTH ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM PLAY A PART IN CREATING THE LIGHT, AND I DO NOT DOUBT THIS THEORY. I WILL ALSO POINT OUT THAT MYSTERY LIGHTS NEED NOT BE CAUSED BY PIEZOELECTRIC ENERGY, AND APPEAR AROUND RAILROAD TRACKS, BUT CAN BE CAUSED BY ALMOST ANY SORT OF ENERGY, INCLUDING STATIC ELECTRICITY OR SOURCED MAN-MADE ELECTRICITY. ALTHOUGH THE REFERENCE I GOT THE MYSTERY LIGHT TEXT FROM DOES NOT SUGGEST THIS, IT DOES APPEAR POSSIBLE THAT MYSTERY LIGHTS CAN APPEAR IN THE SKY, AS WELL AS ON THE GROUND.
