Now for the comments,
I recently finished the godsword.zip that you have in one of the pages.
I suggest you find a new document because the gentleman who wrote it had
some serious flaws. For example, he often misquotes Romans 13:23 as
"But he who doubts is condemned." When, the full quote is "But he who
doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for
whatever is not from faith is sin." In logic, we would write this as
if (A AND B) then C
The author's logic is
if A then C
He drops a condition of the test.
He also mis-uses James in stating that James and Paul contradict each
other. Paul simple states that good works without any faith won't get
you to salvation. James says that faith without good works isn't really
faith.
To put it another way, because I do good things doesn't mean I have
faith, but if I have faith, I have to do good things.
Also, the author seems to have a misconception about the writing of
books. History is never written as it happens, but days, months or
years later. An author could write about things he directly witnessed,
and still through phrases in like "even to this day" because he writes
20 years after it happened.
He seems confused about the dating of scriptures. I got the general
impression that he believes with two documents dated 100 AD and 100 BC,
the one in 100 BC was written first. Not true, it just means the
earliest copy of the documents we can date are to those dates. There
is a document attributed to Julius Caesar that dates to 1000 AD, but is
generally accepted to be written by Caesar himself. We just cannot
find earlier copies. Most of the new testament scripture we can date
within 100 years of the time it was actually authored.
The author claims that the Gospels were not written by eyewitnesses.
Matthew and John were disciples. Luke we know was an eyewitness to some
the Acts of the Apostles and may have been around for some of then
events in Luke. Mark I'm not sure of.
Lastly, the God's Word book was originally published in 1927. This
misses a lot of research done in the last 70 years (the dead sea scrolls
come to mind).
Finally, I do wish to caution the Skeptic Tank on the use of labels. I
could call myself an African-American, it would make it true. Many
"Christians" don't even pretend to believe in Biblical scripture. The
media loves to label abortion clinic bombings as "Christians" but most
Christians don't agree with the tactic.
Thanks for your time,
Mike
