17 HELD IN CHILD SEX PROBE
 
Seventeen people have been arrested on Merseyside following a major
probe into alleged child sex abuse by police and social services
departments.
 
"Detectives have executed warrants at addresses throughout Merseyside
and 17 people have been arrested," said a police spokesman yesterday.
 
"They are now helping police with their inquiries at various police
stations."
 
Police confirmed the allegations under investigation included
satanism, but because of the sensitive nature of the inquiry were not
prepared to release further details.
