                    17 HELD IN SATAN SEX KIDS SWOOP
                          "Occult" gang broken
 
A CHILD-sex gang which dabbles in devil-worship was smashed yesterday
after 100 police raided several homes.
 
Seventeen people - including a schoolteacher and an education officer
- were quizzed last night over allegations of abuse against children
aged eight to 15.
 
Mersey side Police Supt Albert Kirby said: "We are considering
digging up gardens to look for animal or human bones.
 
"We don't know ourselves exactly what we are looking for."
 
The raids follow a six-month probe by social workers from Liverpool
and nearby Knowsley.
 
Supt Kirby said: "There has been close co-operation between police
and social services to ensure the interests of the children remain
paramount."
 
He said police are treating seriously claims that the child abuse is
linked to the "occult."
