Psychologist loses license for exorcism

PHOENIX--A state board revoked the Arizona license of a psychologist who says
he successfully exorcized angry spirits from a 10-year-old boy with a Bible,
holy water, crucifix and prayer.  Kenneth Olson, a Lutheran minister, said he
would perform an exorcism again if the need arose.  "It's a sad state when the
board can't recognize prayer as a treatment," said Olson, who has practiced
exorcisms for 12 years.  "No one seems to care that the boy seems to be cured."
The boy, now cared for by foster parents, "had been beaten, tortured, sexually
abused and demonized" by his natural parents, said Olson, whose exorcism was
discovered when he billed the state $180 for the two-hour procedure.  Friday's
ruling marked the second time Olson has been punished by the Board of
Psychologist Examiners.  In 1988, it gave him two years probation for an
exorcism on a 16-year-old bank robber in juvenile detention.  Exorcism is not
recognized as a legitimate form of psychological treatments, board members
said.

Comments (not from Tribune):  He says the boy is cured after the exorcism.  
Don't suppose it could have anything to do with the fact that he is now 
with a foster family, instead of parents who beat him, sexually abused him, 
etc.  Nah, must be the exorcism.
