- The fundamentalists believe that there is a book containing
the words of God - the truth of those words are not subject
  to dispute.
+ Science has respect for the great scientists of the past, but
no "Bible of Gravity" and no indubitable truths written on
  the forehead of God.

- The fundamentalists will not tollerate disagreement within the ranks.
+ Science thrives in disagreement

- Religions all through history have attempted to kill disagreement
by killing or silencing the disagreers.
+ Science institutionalizes disagreement as valuable, and "status quo"

- The fundamentalists "explain" things with "God makes it so. Any
further questioning is probing the secret mind of God."
+ Science lays its theories out for all to examine. Further
  questioning is encouraged.

- The fundamentalists hide their "evidence" behind "revealed by God",
+ Science uses publicly available evidence.

- For fundamentalists, the point is to gain converts, collect souls.
- For science, the point is to learn.

- The fundamentalists view their role in terms of the "armies of
righteousness vs. the armies of evil". Evolution vs. creationism
is a MORAL dispute, not a scientific one.
- Scientists view their role in terms of a community of enquiring,
  rational minds.

Given the above, it should not be surprising that they mis-quote,
mis-represent, quote out of context, attack theories they
do not understand, don't recognize or acknowledge errors they've
made, cite data without references, and so on. Such trivial
details as intellectual honesty is not important to them - counting
members of the "congregation" is.

It strikes me that the creationists have no respect for science, and
no interest in scientific method. What they want is the respect
and athority that science has. But they do not understand that
science EARNED that respect.
