Organizations

Focus. Focus is an international network of people who were once associated 
with high-demand groups. Focus offers support, referrals, and an opportunity 
to meet, both socially and at conferences, to discuss our common experiences 
and to assist one another in adjusting to life after a cultic or totalistic

Peregrine Foundation. A non-profit organization that distributes information 
about high-demand religious groups, totalitarian sects, intentional

Hawking God: A Young Jewish Woman's Ordeal in Jews for Jesus by Ellen 
Kamentsky. The author tells how she was sucked in by Jews for Jesus, 
a multimillion-dollar fundamentalist Christian missionary machine. 
Kamentsky eloquently recounts the painful story of how her parents 
struggled for three years to free her from the group. Available from

Jesus Doesn't Live Here Anymore by Skipp Porteous (Prometheus Books). 
A former fundamentalist minister's disturbing inside look at the Christian 
Right. Available from the [ref011]IFAS bookstore.

Leaving the Fold by Marlene Winell (New Harbinger Publications). This 
guide for former fundamentalists offers support and exercises to promote 
healing and growth. Winell, a psychologist, tells of her own break 
with fundamentalism. Available from the [ref012]IFAS bookstore.

Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America by Mel White 
(Simon & Shuster). White, a former ghostwriter for Jerry Falwell and 
Pat Robertson, comes out of the closet to confront homophobia within 
the Religious Right. Available from the [ref013]IFAS bookstore.
