During the UFO waves of 1966 and 1967, UFOs were making frequent appearances over U.S Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile sites. The Titan ICBM sites were also visited. During my course of work in the Minuteman Program Office within the defense industry, I talked with civilian and military personnel who were located on these ICBM bases. They informed me of the UFO sightings. What disturbed me was the reported electromagnetic effects from the UFOs that were affecting strategic electrical equipment essential to the operation of emplaced Minuteman missiles that the U.S counted upon for defense. Attempted intercepts by Air Force fighters proved futile. In one case, communications between land strike-teams and intercepting aircraft were completely blocked out by strong radio interference. Dr. J. Allen Hynek managed to obtain a nonclassified summary of this particular case and brought it to the public's attention in December of 1966. Excerpts from his report are as follows: On August 25, 1966, an Air Force officer in charge of a missile crew in North Dakota found that his radio was being interrupted. He was in a concrete capsule 60 feet below the ground. Other Air FOrce personnel on the surface reported seeing a UFO. It appeared to be alternately climbing and descending. Simultaneously radar picked up the UFO at 100,000 feet. When the UFO climbed, the static stopped. It then appeared to land. Missile-site control sent a strike-team to check. When the team was about ten miles from the landing site, static disrupted radio contact with them. The UFO took off. Another UFO was visually sighted and confirmed by radar. The one first sighted passed beneath the second. Radar confirmed this. The first made for altitude toward the north and the second seemed to disappear with the glow of red. I by chance met the now officer, who was in the Minuteman Facility sixty feet underground, when the incident Dr. Hynek made public had taken place. He confirmed what Hynek had written and told me that nothing on earth could have caused such equipment malfunction from an altitude of 100,000 feet. He told me those interrogated by Air Force intelligence teams were told not to talk about the incident further. Time after time I had been told this by military personnel who related their sightings to me. The government did not want such things made public. It is to Dr. Hynek's credit that he took advantage of an unclassified memorandum on the case just cited.... Internet: Fred.Austin@juxta.mn.pubnix.net Fred.Austin@sphinx.hugestech.com ...
