When, not to cut too find a point, they aren't. We cite these instances in the Bible and take them at absolutely face value. No interpretation given. When we say that the Bible says that a person will be blessed when they dash out the brains of children against rocks, it literally says just that. From the Fundies we get cries of `you shouldn't try to interpret the Bible!' and then they (a la Ken Wiens) go on and try to interpret their way AWAY from what the Bible is saying. They miss the point completely. For the above example, it doesn't matter if it was speaking of Babylonian children, or any specific children, there is NO excuse for dashing children's brains against stones. They miss that, inferring that it is just fine in certain circumstances, etc. (like, when YHVH does it). Hell, a good case could be made that WE freethinkers in here actually adhear to the Bible more closely than the Fundies do . . .
