Here in Southern California another "big win" was had for tolerance and
equality.  The major universities will be extending medical and health
benefits for couples reguardless of what gender they are.

It was voted 13 to 12 in favor of equality.

Petty little fundy bigot Gov. Pete Wilson attempted to monkey wrench the
board's decision by implanting two last-minute appointees to the board.
He made a mistake, however:  One of his last-minute appointees is black
and voted for equality whereas his other last-minute appointee voted against
equality -- the practical upshot of which was Pete Wilson's fascist little
move had no effect other than to allow the media to record and report on
the black guy's statements about how _all_ intolerance and bigotry must
be actively fought against.

So progress is slowly being made.  Eventually California will be
acknowledgeing all marriages and the rest of the Union will either have
to abide by the Constitutional requirement for equal protection under the
law else they must leave the Union -- or go live in Iran where they would
be much happier.
