Dear Friends & Supporters, I just received word of this event this evening, taking place this Saturday here in Atlanta. I had never heard of Lee Mun Wah before, but I can tell you I will be there to see him and his work and anticipate a very moving and inspiring experience. It seems Lee Mun Wah, a Chinese American lost his mother to a violent hate crime that so many of us read about, but fortunately never have to experience ourselves. However, rather then let the tragedy cosume him, as so often is the case, Lee Mun Wah faced his grief and has become and inspiration for many, and an activist against hate crimes. I talked to Rhonda at some length, and it sounds like this event would be a great experience for many of us activists interested in areas like gay rights and opposing the intolerance of the extreme religious right. Below are the details of this Saturday's event: ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Mid-South District of the Unitarian Universalist Association is sponsoring a Color of Fear Conference on Sat. May 31 from 9 am to 4:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta. UUs from throughout the U.S., as well as other concerned individuals, are invited to join us. So far we have UUs from as far away as Virginia and Orlando, FL. registered. Lee Mun Wah, a Chinese American who produced the award winning film Color of Fear, will deliver the keynote address and facilitate a workshop centered around the video. The film takes place in California where eight men gather for three days, during which time they talk, yell, argue and cry with one another about scars that racism has left with each of them. Scars that we have seen or experienced and possibly not recognized. We are indeed fortunate to have Lee Mun Wah whose work has proven to have a powerful influence on those who search for understanding and harmony among all people. It is a powerful tool leading toward bonding and community. The conference is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of racism and to dialogue with other social activist interested in building harmony. Lunch, a light breakfast, and a snack will be provided. In the afternoon we will be breaking into discussion groups. The quartet from the Mountain (Highlands Camp and Conference Center) will be performing, as well as singers from the Thurman Hamer Ellington Ministry and a couple from Montgomery,AL.. To register, please leave a voice mail message at (404) 377-9710. The registration fee is $30. We are arranging home hospitality for those who request it. Please consider coming to Atlanta to join us. Our goal is to have 200 conference participants. We are looking forward to networking with others who want to dismantle racism in ourselves, our congregations, and our society. Warm Regards, Rhonda
