Dear Fred, CAN has reorganized into a interdenominational organization which is dedicated to working for religious tolerance. The Church of Scientology took over the name and phone number but they have brought in a number of other people that tend to share the same goals that are expressed on your web site (at least as far as opposing religious bigotry including attempts to kidnap and reprogram innocent atheists into Promise Keepers) . The anti cult cult that was the former CAN is definitely reorganizing to spread fear and hatred towards whatever groups they regard as cults but this is no longer what is happening with the original CAN. The current President is a Baptist minister and I'm a Buddhist (a member of a small platinum edged Buddhist computer cult whose teacher is regularly trashed in the press - see www.fredericklenz.com ). I talked to Nancy one of the COS board members about the CAN files. COS is definitely going after them and its her belief that the files will provide evidence of the criminal activities of CAN which I would certainly like to share with the world by internet posting. But my real interest in working with the reorganized CAN is as a Reconciler. As we receive frantic calls for deprogrammers, I pick up on some of them and work towards reconciling families from different religious viewpoints. I talk to the family, to the religious group, get agreements from the family not to trash the other family members religious beliefs and so on - standard mediation type work. I downloaded Richard's Pagan page on CAN and I am particularly concerned with assisting followers of the pre-Christian religions with educating families with the positive benefits of their belief systems. Most of the calls we get on the CAN hot line is by people concerned with satanic cults. The people out at www.religioustolerance.com have interesting things to say about the cult that doesn't exist - satanic cults. If you would like to know more about the reformed CAN's activities let me know or if you have any pagans that would like a Buddhist mediator to help their family understand that the the 'old time religion is good enough for me' let me know. And remember if you meet the Buddha on the street don't buy his flowers.
