Dear Americans United/Atlanta Friend and Supporters,

On January 25th at 2 pm Americans United/Atlanta will be hosting an event at
the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta to expose and oppose
religious extremism in politics.

Many area organizations are coming together to voice opposition to Pat
Robertson's extremist rhetoric with a public showing of Dr. Mel White's
video, "An Open Letter Video to Pat Robertson".

Dr. White was a speech writer for Robertson for years until the
televangelist stepped up his gay bashing on The 700 Club in order to raise
donation levels. The more money came in, the more outrageous Pat got, for
example:

"One of the reasons so many lesbians are in the forefront of the pro choice
movement is because being a mother is a unique characteristic of motherhood
and these lesbians will never be mothers naturally, so they don't want
anyone else to have that priviledge either."

And of course, Pat has been no friend of church/state separation either:

"This country was founded by Christians. It was founded as a Christian nation."

"They're trying to sell us this nonsense about separation of church and
state. And that's what it is, it's a fanatical interpretation of the First
Amendment."

Finally, Dr. White bravely came out about his own sexuality and asked
Robertson to cease his irresponsible and inflamatory misinformation. Pat
didn't, and needless to say Mel and him don't speak much these days. But Dr.
White still speaks out, and what he has to say is a valuable and intelligent
rebuttal, indeed!

Please attend this important event and kick off the new year by showing your
support for the many participating organizations and your opposition to
televangelist Pat Robertson's extremist agenda!

If your involved with an organization and would like to have a table at the
event please let us know.
