Date: 14/Jun/95 Re: TCP/UDP-IP, SNMP, PPP, Source code This list shows _some_ of the RFC (Request For Comment) Protocols which Transtream will be interested in when delving into the world of TCP/UDP-IP, SNMP, PPP, and Internet compliance. These text files are stored on the "'ICE' machine in a directory called c:\rfc in a zipped state. The specifications and protocols described in these texts are well written and understandable. The protocols they describe have been implimented by commercial vendors as well as by the people who created them. Berkeley TCP/IP source, for instance, is publically available and represents the 'up-to-the-minute' industry standard. The author of the SNMP protocol also provides public source code which reflects the very latest modifications to the SNMP protocol. Commercial vendors have historically taken the Berkeley or Waterloo TCP/IP sources and modified them in subtle ways, then marketed the source bundled with support and detailed documentation. No one rewrites TCP/IP these days. My recommendation is to download the TCP/UDP-IP protocol stack source code directly from Berkeley and have a consultant (perferably someone who has experience with the source) fold it into our project.
