Science Student Council Creates Home Page and Plans Convention Activities

The APA Science Student Council (APASSC) has now completed its home page, which was designed to provide useful information and resources for science-oriented psychology graduate students. Page highlights include information on pre/postdocs, jobs, funding opportunities, and links to professional associations, science journals, and book publishers. Formed in 1993, APASSC is composed of a diverse group of science-oriented psychology graduate students who advise the Science Directorate on matters of importance to students. The Council reports directly to the APA Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) and works cooperatively with the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS). The Council has also been working with APAGS to sponsor programs of interest to science-oriented students at the upcoming APA Annual Convention in Chicago (see following details), and to publish an ongoing "Science Section" in the APAGS newsletter that is distributed quarterly to all APA graduate student affiliates.

Convention Plans

With support from APAGS and BSA, APASSC will offer a program at the upcoming APA Annual Convention in Chicago in which students will have an opportunity to meet with distinguished scientists to discuss critical issues in psychological science. APASSC Chair Frederick P. Morgeson organized the program, which will feature the following eminent scientists: Martin E. P. Seligman, PhD, University of Pennsylvania; Robert J. Sternberg, PhD, Yale University; and Shelley E. Taylor, PhD, University of California, Los Angeles.
