APA Science Student Council Initiatives
The APA Science Student Council (APASSC), an advisory group to the Science Directorate, met on October 22-23, 1994, in Washington, DC, to discuss issues affecting science-oriented graduate students. This 9-member council was created to help APA serve the needs of the science graduate student population.
APASSC decided at this meeting to collaborate on convention programming with the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS). Plans are underway for joint social hours and convention sessions targeted specifically at science graduate students. As programming becomes finalized, it will be highlighted in Psychological Science Agenda.
Other topics of interest to the group included career development opportunities, training programs, alternative employment settings for psychologists, new research initiatives, and APA's expanding electronic access through Internet and the World Wide Web. It is the hope of APASSC that more programs will become available that will interest and encourage scientifically oriented graduate students to participate in APA activities. APAGS and APASSC have made a commitment to work together on these future projects. APASSC is requesting suggestions from students, faculty, and researchers concerning future initiatives.
