1996 Dissertation Research Awards

The Science Directorate announces the ninth annual competition for dissertation research funding. Up to 50 doctoral students of psychology will be awarded $1,000 grants to assist with dissertation research costs. In previous competitions, 100 students have received grants of $500. However, the APA Science Student Council, an advisory group to the Science Directorate, recommended to the Board of Scientific Affairs that the number of awards be reduced, so that the size of the grants could be increased. Council members reasoned that $500 no longer defrays the costs of dissertation research. To date, 800 students have received $400,000 in grant funds through this program.
