APA Fellow Dean Keith Simonton, PhD, Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Davis, received two major honors in the summer of 1996. The first was the Sir Francis Galton Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Study of Creativity, which was given to him by the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics at its meeting in the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. He was also named the recipțient of the Rudolf Arnheim Award for Outstanding Contributions to Psychology and the Arts at the 1996 APA Convention.

Ruby Takanishi, PhD, becomes President of the Foundation for Child Development, December 1, 1996. Dr. Takanishi was the Executive Director of the Carnegie Council on Adolescent Development throughout its 10 years of operation, from 1986 to June 1996. Before that, she directed the Office of Scientific Affairs and served as Administrative Officer for Children, Youth, and Family Policy at APA. Currently, Dr. Takanishi is Assistant Director for Social and Behavioral Sciences and Education in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy of the Executive Office of the President.

The Foundation for Child Development provides grants and conducts programs aimed at alleviating poverty and its negative consequences for young children and their families. In recent years, the Foundation has focused on welfare reform and its implications for child well-being and on the development of strategic planning initiatives in low-income neighborhoods.

Kay Deaux, PhD, was recently elected President-Elect of the American Psychological Society (APS). Dr. Deaux, an APA Fellow, is a professor of social psychology and administrator in the Graduate School of the City University of New York. The APS elections brought two other APA Fellows to the APS Board of Directors: John M. Darley, PhD, the Dorman T. Warren Professor of Psychology at Princeton University, and Steven J. Ceci, PhD, the Helen L. Carr Professor of Psychology at Cornell University.
