March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation

The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation supports clinical and basic research in the social and behavioral sciences relevant to its goal of preventing birth defects. Clinical research grants fund proposals that address pregnancy outcome, factors interfering with the birth of normal, full-term infants, survival of low-birth-weight babies, cognitive development of low-birth-weight infants, and genetic and environmental influences.

Social and behavioral science research grants support projects that investigate medical, psychological, social, and familial factors affecting the development of infants and children with birth defects during the first several years of life. Clinical research grants range from $32,000 to $90,000; social and behavioral science grants range from $25,000 to $50,000; and Basil O'Connor awards do not exceed $40,000.
