NSF Seeks Comments on Peer Review

The internal committee was formed in response to the Government Accounting Office 1994 report on peer review, which concluded that, 'overall, the process appears to be working reasonably well,' however federal agencies need to take additional measures to ensure its fairness.

'The NSF internal group does not want to overhaul the current system, but is looking for ways to improve problem areas,' said Anne Petersen, PhD, NSF Deputy Director. 'The effectiveness of the peer review system is more and more critical as federal funding gets tighter,' she added.
