CEMA Invites Nominations for Dissertation Award

The APA Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) seeks nominations for the Jeffrey S. Tanaka, PhD, Memorial Dissertation Award in Psychology. This award recognizes an outstanding dissertation in psychology that increases our understanding of the psychological issues and concerns facing communities of color.

CEMA welcomes applications from individuals who filed their dissertations between 1994 and 1996. The research must focus on one or more of the following areas:(a) enhancing the psychological understanding of ethnic minority issues, (b) improving psychological service delivery systems to ethnic minorities, (c) developing new concepts or theories relevant to ethnic minority populations, and (d) creating methodological paradigms that promote effective research and understanding of the values, beliefs, and needs of ethnic minority communities.

The winner will receive $500 and a $300 travel award from the Science Direc-torate and will be invited to present his or her dissertation at the 1997 APA Annual Convention in Chicago, August 15-19.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is April 1, 1997. Please provide five copies of a 1,000-word abstract. The dissertation title should appear on all five copies, however, only one copy should identify the author and provide the author's current address and daytime telephone number.
