Linn, Smith Address Attendees at Test Standards Revision Conference

On October 7-9, 1994, the Joint Committee on the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing held an Open Conference at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, VA. Over 120 participants convened to testify before the Committee, to hear panel discussions on cutting-edge topics in testing and assessment, and to discuss issues of concern within targeted constituency groups. The Conference was sponsored by the Joint Committee to allow researchers and practitioners interested in the revision a forum through which to present, discuss, and debate critical issues in testing and assessment. The project is a joint effort of the American Educational Research Association, APA, and the National Council on Measurement in Education and is staffed by Science Directorate personnel.

Highlights of the conference included a keynote address by Robert L. Linn, PhD, of the University of Colorado, and Dr. Linn, Vice-Chair of the previous revision committee, offered advice on planning the scope of the revision. Marshall A. Smith, EdD, Undersecretary of Education gave a special invited address highlighting recent developments in education reform and related activities at the Department of Education.

More information about the conference sessions is available from Tiffany Anderson in the Science Directorate.
