TPE Opens at Oregon Museum

The Traveling Psychology Exhibition (TPE) heads west once again, closing on Labor Day at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and opening on September 30 at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland. With its six large exhibit halls and its extensive outreach programs, the 50-year-old science center is a Portland institution and a major influence in the field of science education throughout the state of Oregon. OMSI also produces its own exhibitions that tour the country. In 1992 the Museum relocated to an expanded site along the east bank of the Willamette River, where it is now attracting over 1 million visitors a year.

Psychologists from the Oregon Psychological Association and from local universities are working with science center staff to plan a variety of public programs--speakers, films, and special events--while the Exhibition is in Portland. A workshop for high school psychology teachers is scheduled for late September to coincide with the opening.

TPE was developed and produced by APA and the Ontario Science Centre, with support from the National Science Foundation, the William T. Grant Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Harvard University, and the National Institute of Mental Health. The Exhibitionŝs tour is managed by the Association of Science-Technology Centers.
